eBay Diaries - Part One: Getting Started - Page 2

I’d used PayPal to
pay for items online before, but I hadn’t
used it as a merchant. When I researched in the eBay community, there
was a lot of complaining about the fees PayPal charged and resentment
because
it was owned
by eBay.
So I
looked around for another option and came back to PayPal as the pick
of the bunch.
Here’s why:
1) Sure, it’s never fun paying fees – but
banks actually charged MORE for a merchant facility and I still
had to set up
a payment gateway.
2) Because PayPal and eBay are owned by the same company, as soon
as a payment clears PayPal I know about it in my eBay back end management
system.
3) Unlike direct bank deposits where customers sometimes forget to
provide any details, it’s easy to match who paid for what in
PayPal. It saves me a HEAP of time and frustration and I actually
now prefer it to bank deposits.
With the company structure, accounts and payment methods settled,
I now had to decide what to sell.
When deciding what to buy, we went back to
the Soggy
Sandwich book, where Janiece advises “Always do your homework before you go
out and play” and “Choose items that interest you”.
We did our homework on tools to help us and then
signed up for a subscription to a software program called Auction
Intelligence.
